It really just falls down to redundancy. We've got two means to appreciate a post running in parallel - one's highly abusable, holds no intrinsic value and is very basic, the other has safeguards against abuse, a much more linear valuation of posts and now is key to obtaining level two... the logical choice is to remove the thanks button. We'll rearrange the rep button's position shortly.
