This is a tutorial to those who are interested in viewing or creating chinese igns. I'm sure some of you might know this already or through the english.loc editing but that didn't really worked for me or through other methods. I just share my method but i won't guarantee it'll work for all of you as your com might be missing some language packs.
Im sure some of you might have seen igns with very weird symbols. To view them, For XP users,
you just click on Start > Settings > Control Panel
Double click Regional and Language Options.
Click on Languages Tab
-Ensure “Install files for East Asian languages” under “Supplemental language support” section is checked,
- If not, you will need to check on the box of “Install files for East Asian Languages”, then click Apply button to do the install.
-You may need your Windows XP CD. Installing these files will allow you to use Chinese, Japanese, and Korean in your computer.
-Now click on the Advanced tab and change your computer's unicode format to chinese(prc) and restart.
For Vista users,
Go to Control Panel > Regional and Language Options
Click the Administrative tab, change the system locale to Chinese(Simplified,PRC), restart and your done.
If you did that, you should be able to view the chinese words when you meet the same person. It will not appear as weird symbols anymore, including fam names.
Now to input chinese into the game and create a chinese ign,
For XP users,
click “Details” button under the Languages tab of Regional and Language Options.
On the Settings tab of the new window, Click Add
In the “Input language” list, select Chinese (PRC) for simplified characters.
From the “Keyboard Layout/IME” list, select Chinese (PRC)- Chinese (Simplified) - Microsoft Pinyin IME 3.0
After this step, your settings configuration should look like the screen shot displayed here:
For Vista users,
the steps is similar, you just click on 'Keyboard and Languages' tab > Change keyboard > Add Chinese (Simplified) - Microsoft Pinyin IME > Apply, done
On your Toolbar at the bottom right hand side, you should see a language bar, letters “EN” for English, “CH” for Chinese
- Click this button to change languages or use ALT+SHIFT key combination to switch between languages.
- By switching to the Chinese setting, you can now type Chinese characters in most software applications and browses using Pinyin and/or accent numbers(1-4).
- Use the ARROW KEYS to toggle between characters or type the number next to the character to choose the one you need.
- To temporarily switch between typing Chinese and English, you can simply press the SHIFT key on your keyboard.
Now, log onto the game.
For my example, i use a fam name change item.
At the nickname part, you write the hanyu pinyin of the first chinese character.
Then press 1, if its not the chinese character that you want, press left directional arrow once and then press 2. Repeat and press 3,4 and so on until you get the chinese character that you want. Then type the hanyu pinyin of the 2nd character and do the same. In my case, i typed out
When you are satisfied, click on 'Repeat search' and this pop out should appear, in my case it wrote "周杰伦 can be used as a FAM name". ^^"

Click Use and the name will be changed to chinese. ^^
You can easily revert the settings by removing the chinese pinyin input and reverting the unicode settings back to english if you do not like the look of the fonts in this unicode format but i'm fine with it.
