Well I'm far more experienced on Stage Editing in Audition, so I think it's time to make a tut. Hope you guys find this useful ^^
Basic Step:
- First, unpack old acvs using acv_tool
- Now looking for the Stage folder you want to edit. It is located inside "model" folder
List:
(Other new stages are stored in 3rd gen acvs, which we cannot modify)
- hiphop
- island2
- speaker
- sibuya
- megabox
- x_mas2005
- subway
- ghostschool
- pirate
- ski
- evenland
- worldcup
- Halloween <- might be un-editable on some server
- stage_zjc
- malibu
- club <- editing affect both Club Dance and S-B-Boy Battle
- club2
- night
- ballroom
- After you collected all the stage you want to edit, copy and paste it to "model" folder in highest 1st acv. It will look like this:
- The stages are set up with RGM and DDS data (plus SLK for moving objects). What we are going to edit, are the DDS files, and you will need the following tools for the work:
(Not sure about DDS tool for ATI, I don't have ATI card anyway...)
- Adobe Photoshop CS

Knowing stage data:
There are three stages type you will encounter while editing:
"Idle" - Only DDS and one RGM. Editing this will be easy, and you can have it "replace" any other stages
"Animation" - Some objects will be moving and/or locating at specified position. Within these stages, you will find additional RGMs and/or a folder (screen, tv, etc...) containing many DDS in form of animation frames. Still easy to edit as long as you know the layout, but it won't be able to replace other stages easily
"Lively" - The hardest one! These stages contain many RGMs for displaying objects along with SLK to determine its moving path, position, etc... The only thing you can try is edit it - don't have it replace other stages...
I will cover more info about Replacing Stage at the advanced tutorial in the future, if possible
Start editing Stage
With Photoshop and DDS plugin, you will be able to open DDS files, containing the Stage's layout. As said, you should try learning the Stage's layout in-game before editing - snapping some pictures will help. Then, learn the way DDS files are set up to display in game - sample:
But don't forget, Audition's DDS also uses Alpha Channel for controlling image's transparency. Open Channel Tab while editing and look for Alpha 1. Here the color will determine what's displayed and what's not - White for full display, black for not-display, and Grey for 50% display
After editing your way and your stage is ready to play, you may want to make its own Stage Avatar too. I have saved a template for this step - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Open the DDS, then add your Stage avatar (Square 125 x 125 pixels) behind all layers. Merge them back, then paste the new image into existing old Stage avatar, save, and you're done
By the way, the setting for saving DDS is shown below, in case you don't know which profile setting to pick:
Well, that should cover all the basic step for Stage Editing
For more specified, I will make an example.
Here is how my couple (KimAPTM) edit and create her own KP Club Stage. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Step 1: Get the "Samsung Club" speaker stage. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Step 2: Unzip and unpack the acv. Bring it to higher acv in your Audition Data folder
Step 3: Open speaker folder and start editing
Thanks to:
- First, she changed the main stage: New color, adding own logo
- Next, she added logo to the Samsung DB display
- Then, she changed colors on some images and the main background to night sky:
- Then, she took her own images to replace old one in TV folder. This is where the dancing character displays in Studio 81
- The spark folder is not needed in this stage. So she disabled all files inside by making it "blank"
- Now she has done editing, she did test run to snap image for the Stage Avatar:
- And the final result, if you're too lazy to watch the video:
- Nvidia: For DDS plugin
- Chinese Players: For acv_tool
- cdiu: For advanced editing step
- Me: For making this tutorial
- KimAPTM: For let me use her stage as sample guide ^^
