Wow, I am definitely going to try this in a moment. I think the only draw back may be the plastic screens that are used in certain protective covers (in the cast of an ipod/iphone).

This is not a new trick. People did the same thing with Android phones in order to see peoples' unlock patterns ages ago, and people probably did it long before that.
