An Overview of VIPRE:

The "VIPRE.Suspicious" scan result is returned when Sunbelt's VIPRE engine detects in files programmatic characteristics and qualities that match certain heuristics that indicate the potential presence of malicious code. A "VIPRE.Suspicious" designation is NOT a positive detection of "malicious code," however. Rather it is simply a report that a file has certain characteristics that make it worthy of further inquiry -- as in "suspicious" not "confirmed." Thus, a VIPRE Suspicious detection is in no way an allegation or positive confirmation that a file contains malicious code or exhibits malicious behavior. A VIPRE.Suspicious detection should not be regarded as a final determination or judgment, but rather cause for further investigation to determine the true nature of the file in question. It is possible that legitimate files could trigger a VIPRE.Suspicious detection if those files employ packers, crypters, obfuscators, or other technologies and techniques commonly employed by malware authors. The VIPRE.Suspicious designation is returned only through the scan engine supplied to VirusTotal. Regular users of CounterSpy will not ever see a detection labeled "VIPRE.Suspicious." While the VIPRE threat engine is used in CounterSpy version 2.0, a "suspicious" flag by the VIPRE threat engine will not cause a file a or threat to be automatically removed by CounterSpy. Rather it merely causes a toaster pop-up warning to users that a file deemed "suspicious" is executing and requires a decision on their part to block or allow the file.
