New Consoles in 2010

In just two years time there will be new consoles hitting the market from Nintendo and Microsoft.
At least, that's what analyst firm Pacific Crest Securities believes is going to happen. The firm reasons [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], and the two companies will release new hardware to capitalize on technologies and services that will be available at the time.

"We believe that peak industry sales will occur in 2010, given that Microsoft will likely introduce its next console that year and Nintendo will likely launch before then," said Evan Wilson in an article at U.K. news service GameIndustry.biz.

From the start, Sony has always said the PlayStation 3 will have a ten year life cycle.

The Pacific Crest Securities analyst added that the Nintendo DS and Sony's PSP will reach the end of their life cycles at the same time as their console cousins, and would also be replaced by new hardware.

Wilson is the same analyst who made news late last year when he revealed that insider sources at Nintendo had confirmed a DS redesign was already complete. That prediction has yet to pan out.

i knew this was going to happen. right when these consoles were launched, DX10 came out. the 2010 consoles will most likely be DX10-compatible

From what I hear, DX10 compatibility is available on the XBOX360 and possibly the PS3. But, from SONY's continuous comments that their PS3 will be here for 10 years, it seems as though everyone will be releasing around the same time except for Sony.

I dont think they are going to make a new console, we would have heard about it by now.

It seems rather sudden, to me at least. But I can sort of see the PSP's life-span in the near future. Right now, the homebrew community is still above Sony.
