So low level monsters have recently taken up raping me

I am at a relatively low level starting out. Things were going peachy for the first couple battles...

I come back, and every battle I have attempted, I end up getting gang banged by 3 or 4 monsters at once. Am I doing something wrong in this "nub leveling up" attempts?

All I do is travel from fallow village to nub cave, get an encounter, and simply die. Is there a different strategy I should be attempting to level up, or am I simply limited to this?

Hmm, start in the villiage, and heal up if you have to (talk to the Inn Keeper) then talk to the black smith and buy some armor and weapons, you should be fine then, you should probably get some potions too, they help.

its really not too hard, assuming you havent lost your first 500 gold to dieing (like I did, and ended up having to dig my way back to the surface after being pummeled a million times but wasps and stuff)

EDIT: Put your stats into STR and HP for now, screw magic, its so useless its not even funny... except ultimate poison, thats funny...
Then DEF, then EVA, then MAG def, and if your bored, finnally into MAG, but thats only when you get spells, and THEN MP. in that order, do that and you'll be fine =P

P.S. dont attempt to rob the bank, I did, and got raped by pursuited... then I did it again... and died...again....
P.S.S. Theres this weird thing with the game where it takes the same ammount of EXP to level up each time, use this to your advantage while leveling, you can reach super high levels like 100 in like a week if you can find the right monster

I'd suggest putting stats into str and def. Once you have enough defense, they would hit you for 0 dmg, eliminating the need for HP at all.

After they hit you for 0 dmg, statrs pumping str until you can 1-2 hit them, and then pump just enough speed to be twice as fast as the fastest monster in the area that you are leveling.

The inn in beginner is free, use it to recover often until monster hit you for 0 dmg. As for stats and spell, see below:

Evasion is pretty much useless imo, no point to dodge attack if they hit you for 0 dmg. Later level (say 100+), you might need some hp if you are planning to fight with monster that cast poison and stuff. Accuracy is secondary until higher level when monster evasion jumps to 60 instead of 13. Magic defense, like omega said, is useless. It makes enemy miss their spell more, not reduce the dmg.

Lastly spell and skill wise, ultimate poison is useless. Monster that dies with the spell just end up getting recovered and you would waste 1-3 turns casting it due to very very low success rate. In fact... every spell and 1 sword skill, beside healing, is useless and costly. Save the money for your equipment to level faster.

Btw you can duel wield weapon to hit twice per turn.
