Re: what kind of file ?

Depends on what game. Some game uses basic database files with extensions such as
    Code:
    .db
    .dat
    &etc
But some games such as Soldier Front uses .SFF files, and Maple uses erm, .wz files if I'm not mistaken.
And for these games you need special unpacker and packer to edit them.
Mind you for most games, it comes with anti-hack system such as GameGuard, nProtect etc.
So bypassing these systems are already a big hassle.
So, I wish you all the best in hacking a game!

P.S, You could try out tools like hex editor, etc (:

Re: what kind of file ?

Perhaps you could tell me the game? I could do a bit of research if I know the game and come back with a full result?

Re: what kind of file ?

From my understanding, this is a server hosted game and even client files are server sided right? In that case, you have to do C++ hacking .
I've done a quick research, for GetAmped or Splash Fighters, there are no client sided files that are edit-able.
I'm not the right person to ask though since I don't really have knowledge in these games .
Do a bit of searching . Start from viewing the folder which the game stores its data in (if there's downloadable data) and start checking out the file extension.
    Google is your best friend.
