Re: Tips

Easy starting classes -
Monk - Everyone wants you. Gets you a good feel of how HP and EN works. GW is more like an action game than your traditional MMORPGS in that respect, you die FAST. 0.5 seconds or less against a good spike team (even NPC mobs).
  • Starting off, I'd probably put my points into healing prayers and divine favor only. Switch off between putting attibute points but focus mainly on healing prayers at first. Then once you get comfortable and have more skills, explore other builds like Boon Prot and Spirit Bonder. As always, all builds in guildwars are capable of dishing damage so if you get bored of healing, you can always go smiting for some PVP fun.
Necromancer - Still, easy to find parties. Lots of playing options that rely on only 2 attributes so not too much confusion there.
  • I'd say the easiest and most managable build to start off with would be Minion Master. Just pump Death Magic and Soul Reaping and you should have no worries. There are other builds also, but for PVE you can stick with MM.
Both these classes do fine without relying on the subclass. So pick whatever secondary profession you want. For Necromancer though I personally suggest going Monk for the reusable resurrection.
General Tips:
  • Save gold - always put it in storage or you'll get an urge to splurge it on something pointless.
  • Start with premade builds if you're not comfortable with making them on your own. I recommend guildwarsguru.com for that.
  • Don't be afraid to think outside the box. There are 100's of skills per class and hundreds of class combinations, as you get more experienced, try out new builds and switch out skills for the ones you think work better.
  • Don't really worry about weapons as a caster.
  • Always ask if you're not sure about something, usually there will be friendly players in between the usual chastisement.
If you need more tips, my IGN is: Minos of Crete. (Please don't ask me for gold, I'm virtually broke with 4 active characters and the new NF release.)

Appended:
As for rare items. The color code is white - blue - purple - gold - green. (Though often times golds sell for more than greens)
With the addition of nightfall, it's a good idea to always identify the drops you get as even really low leveled weapons can have good inscriptions. Some of the more sought after weapon upgrades are 15^50, 20/20 sundering, Max Vamp, +30 HP for melee weapons, and Zealous Bow Strings. If you have a question, don't hesitate to do a price check in game before deciding on a price to sell things. Also, never sell Green items to merchants and always try to sell a gold to another player before.
As for runes, inscriptions, and insignias, there are rune traders you can go to check with to see how much the runes are selling for. Usually you should price yorus a bit below what the rune trader quotes you for.
For dyes, the general rule of thumb is to keep black and white dyes. The rest is personal preference.

Re: Tips

I think the best advice for a game like this is obtained through experience. Just play around and check stuff out, make 2-3 Role Play chars, and the rest PvP. Use your Role Players to check out the game and learn the basics, how stuff works. Use the PVP to experiment with skills, and you can delete and re-create your PvP characters at any time if you want to experiment in other classes.

BTW, monk actually is one of the harder classes and i wouldn't recomend it untill you've seen how stuff works in some of the harder, 8player team areas. The point of the monk is to support every player on your team and keep them alive. keeping 7 players alive is a sorta tough job, and alot of people get pissed off at you if they die, even if it's not your fault.

But really, every class has it's ups and downs. What i did was, i went to the guildwars.com website and just read the character descriptions. Whichever character sounded more interesting i chose as my first.

Just remember you can always ask questions, or look at sites, just ignore the *******s -_-''

Re: Tips

1 st character what anyone must have is Warrior/monk.
You have good fighter and same way healer. You can feel the nicest part on the game...FARMING. Some builds can be found on: guildwars guru

Farming with W/Mo doesn't really work great with the Post-Nightfall AI though..
