What do people use?

I was going to come up with a GB hack but i'm use to making GunZ hacks, and i was wondering what do people use to make hacks on GB? i know you use CE and CT's or Trainer's but what do they use to gather the info?
Note: i did look threw tut's and other things but i didnt really understand the hex and ect and if anyone could explain that'd be great!

Do you use decompilers like Gunz and then get the info you need to create the hack or do you use those hex tools and ect to do it? or do you just make a Cheat Table threw Cheat Engine?
