rahlzel's Ultimate L4D Mathack v5.1
This is a new kind of L4D hack. It allows users to pick and choose which features they want as a build-your-own hack solution. You can pick from lots of different individual features shown below, or pick from three pre-made "Full" and "Lite" compilations for quick install.
A Few of the Features:
(Click on a feature to view an example screenshot)
(Screenshot gallery with more images can be viewed here)
Well-organized and documented archive allows players to combine any/all features any way they like!
Q's and A's:
Is this detected?
No. Material hacks are not like regular hacks, they're material changes, or "skins" to walls and models. For example, some people like to re-skin their weapons or the clothes of survivors to mix in a little style. A mathack is like this, only we choose to re-skin everything bright and see-through!
Will it ever be detected?
Unless Valve decides it doesn't want people to modify their game content anymore (yeah right), mathacks will always be acceptable.
Known Issues:
With the exception of the Witch, Special (Boss) Infected cannot be seen through walls unless the walls are see-through (wallhacked). You must use the (Full) compilations to do this, or use"\~Individual~\Walls and Props\Wallhack" if you are customizing your own hack.
All materials WITH $ignorez have an issue that occasionally causes them to disappear or be difficult to see if in front of a model (example: a stack of ammo on top of a crate).
A few people (including me) are getting this: the (Full) compilations have a chance of causing a very random crash (approximately once per game in VS, and rarely in Campaign mode). Apparently this is caused by the massive amount of hacked materials. The fewer hacked materials you have, the less of a chance this will happen. Stick to the (Lite) compilation or your own individual customization to steer clear of this. I wouldn't recommend using the (Full) compilations in a serious game where disconnecting would be devastating.
How to Install:
Users of previous versions may need to reinstall the "INSTALL THIS FIRST\MATERIALS" folder and re-customize their hack to gain benefits of some updates.
Note: This is a delicate install. Any deviation from this instruction will result in failure.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] or [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
Open your "Steam\SteamApps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead" directory and delete the "materials" folder you find there. Keep this window on the side.
Use 7zip ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ]) to open the "rahlzel's Ultimate L4D Mathack" archive and find the "\~Ultimate L4D Mathack~\INSTALL THIS FIRST" folder.
URGENT: You MUST use 7zip. WinRAR will NOT work! 7zip is free, lightweight, and has a far more powerful compression algorithm than WinRAR and WinZip combined. 7zip will replace them soon.
Drag + drop the "whitelist.cfg", "pak01_dir.vpk", and the "MATERIALS" folder from the "\~Ultimate L4D Mathack~\INSTALL THIS FIRST" directory into your "Steam\SteamApps\common\left4dead\left4dead" folder, being sure to Copy and Replace everything.
Game is now hack-ready, and you can start using the ~Individual~ or ~Compilations~ hacks to hack your game.
To do so, browse through the ~Individual~ and ~Compilations~ folders. If you'd like to know more about each hack, additional documentation is found inside their folders.
To add an ~Individual~ or ~Compilations~ hack, drag and drop the "MATERIALS" folder of the hack you choose into your "Steam\SteamApps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead" directory to add a hack, making sure to merge/replace all files.
When you're done, you can test the hack by opening the game and starting a Single Player mission.
TIP: If you are unsatisfied with how your customized hack turns out, delete ONLY your "MATERIALS" folder in your Steam\SteamApps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead directory, and start over with installing ONLY the "MATERIALS" folder from "rahlzel's Ultimate L4D Mathack v1\~Ultimate L4D Mathack~\INSTALL THIS FIRST". Then proceed to Step 5.
