That is correct, I'm positive that I am one out of maybe ten at most that have ever accomplished this. I will give the bare boned information on how to play Maplestory using Linux. P.S. WINE DOES NOT WORK.

A little information that is useful before continuing (mainly for those of you who have no idea why this post is here):
Code:
- Linux is an operating system. Sort of like Windows and Macintosh are operating
systems.
- A virtual machine is something that allows you to run one operating system
inside of another.
- Do not spam/flame this thread or me for that matter.
- Keygens are illegal i am simply posting one and how to use it for educational
purposes only, Mods/Admins can delete it if they wish. A keygen is something
that, instead of the product program being limited to a 30-day trial, allows
the program to be ran forever.
BEFORE DOING ANYTHING I SUGGEST YOU READ AND REMEMBER A FEW TIPS:
Code:
- If your mouse disappears once you click inside of your virtual machine you can
simply click "Ctrl + Alt" for it to reappear.
- "Ctrl + Alt + Enter" will make your Virtual Machine Full Screen and will also
remove it from Full Screen.
- PM me if you need anything.
ALL DOWNLOADS LOCATED AT BOTTOM OF THREAD
I suggest using Transmission or any other Linux torrent program to download all of the following:
Code:
- VMware Workstation (make sure its for linux XD)
- Windows XP disc (MUST BE .ISO FORMAT)
- VMware Workstation crack (optional, use at your own risk)
Once that is done you simply install VMware Workstation and setup a new workstation. I'll go ahead and list the steps for those of you who have no idea how to use it.
Code:
- Open VMware Workstation.
- Click "Create new virtual machine"
- Click next with the "typical" setup.
- IMPORTANT Click "Installer disc image file (ISO):"
- Browse to where your torrent saved your Windows XP .iso
- Choose your Windows XP .iso
- Click "Next"
- Insert a genuine Windows XP product key (PM me for a free one)
- Insert your name (password is optional)
- Click "Next"
- Changing the name of your virtual machine is optional.
- Click "Next"
- Choose how much of your hard drive you wish to separate for Windows XP (I
suggest using around 14GB although personally i used 20GB)
- Choose if you want your Virtual Disk as one whole file or separate (One
whole file will make the operating system run faster and separated files will
make it easier to put on a different computer)
- Click "Next"
- Click "Customize Hardware..."
- IMPORTANT You are going to want to separate part of your total RAM for
Windows XP. I personally separated half of my RAM for Windows XP but then
again i have 4GB of RAM. If you are not sure of how much RAM you have simply
click on your Linux operating system "System > Administration > System Monitor"
then click on the "System" tab. (You can also use sysinfo which is
"Applications > System Tools > Sysinfo")
- Now that you have found out how much RAM you have you are probably going
to want to separate half of it for Windows XP. So use your Scroll bar on the
VMware Workstation screen and move it over until your RAM is around half.
DO NOT GO PAST THE BLUE ARROW. You may experience some major lag with both
operating systems if you do.
- Now that you are done editing how much RAM your VMware Workstation will
use click "Save"
- Now all you have to do is click "Finish"
- After clicking finish it will take a minute or two for Windows to start, be
patient because i promise you it WILL start. Once it does you will go through
the entire process of installing a normal Windows XP operating system.
- After installing the Windows XP operating system you should restart VMware
Workstation and Start your Virtual Machine. Once again, it ALWAYS takes a
minute or two for Windows XP to show up and start booting. Log in with the
before chosen Username and Password and congratulations, you are now using
Windows XP on your Linux operating system!
- From here you simply go to Internet Explorer and travel to
Http://maplestory.nexon.net and download maplestory. Then of course, you
install maplestory.
One last thing (IMPORTANT):
Code:
- You do this on Linux AFTER Windows XP has been installed.
- Open up VMware and go to "Edit > Preferences"
- Once the Preferences window opens click on the "Input" tab.
- Under Input you have to UNCHECK all of the boxes under "Cursor"
- After unchecking click close.
How to run the keygen:
Code:
- After downloading the file (included in the VMware Workstation torrent)
browse to where the file "keygen" is saved.
- To make it easier drag and drop the file "keygen" to your desktop.
- Next open up Terminal by "Applications > Accessories > Terminal"
- Type in without quotation marks "cd Desktop" and click enter.(Desktop
must be capitalized)
- Next type inn without quotation marks "sudo sh keygen" and click enter.
- The keygen should begin running.
Troubleshooting:
Problem- "I have installed my Virtual Machine and Maplestory but I can not move once in game!" Solution-
Open up terminal ("Applications > Accessories > Terminal")
Type in without quotes "cd /etc/vmware/"
Type in without quotes "sudo su"
Type in your Linux password.
Type in without quotes "gedit config"
This should open a screen with a lot of random stuff on it.

I suggest manually choosing which of the files you wish the torrent program to
download because this torrent contains both the x64 and x32 bit forms of VMware
Workstation. If you are not sure whether your version of Linux is x32 or x64
just simply download the x32 and try it out, chances are it will work.
