Could ATI's upcoming flagship graphics card, the Radeon HD 2900 XTX, be doomed before it's even released? While ATI's red monster does boast higher core and memory speeds (750 MHz core/2.02 GHz memory compared to NVIDIA's GeForce 8800GTX's 650 MHz core/2 GHz memory*) and utilizes GDDR4 memory (the 8800GTX uses GDDR3), it doesn't even come close to the 8800GTX's performance in all games tested. In fact, even its sibling, the Radeon HD 2900 XT, which should be slightly slower than the XTX, bests the XTX in some tests. Even worse, the Radeon HD 2900 XTX has 320 stream processors; the 8800GTX only has 128. If these results are legitimate, then DAAMIT may be in for some rough times.
There is one positive, though. The Radeon HD 2900 XT, which is poised to compete with the GeForce 8800GTS, is due to release at around the same price as the 8800GTS and preliminary benchmarks show that the Radeon is somewhat speedier in some games.
*Vendor overclocked. Reference speeds are 575 MHz core and 1.8 GHz memory.

Re: ATI Radeon HD 2900 XTX - Doomed from the start?
Always been a Nvidia fan, they are the best at what they do, ATi wouldn't even been in the video card game but they made it by releasing the Radeon Series cards, sad thing is ATi's story is going to come to an end, if these benchmarks are similar to the end results at launch, ATi may be out of buisness.

They may not do so well, but they won't be going out of business. AMD, the 2nd largest manufacturer of processors in the world, bought ATI, so ATI should have plenty of funding for their projects (even though AMD is posting significant losses in sales--around $611 million--due to their recent acquisition of ATI and increased competition from Intel's huge sales of its Core 2 Duo processors).

nvidia SUCKS, there cards are very picky, i bought a 7600 and it had graphic problems so i had to buy an ati sapphire x1650 pro and it works perfect
Re: ATI Radeon HD 2900 XTX - Doomed from the start?
Thats gonna be very sad if the ATI Radeon HD 2900 XTX is worse than all the other ATIs... Its gonna be really sad...
Lets just wait for the results before we dis it like hell =]
BTW I also was a nVidia fan, I also have an AlienWare, so my comp kinda owns some ppl... At least i dun lag :P. Thats the good thing
Back to the ATI Radeon HD 2900 XTX, its gonna be soooo sad to see the new Radeon get owned by its older versions.
Re: ATI Radeon HD 2900 XTX - Doomed from the start?
well looking at the statistics on the website, the 8800 is better for games since you get more frames per second and the more the merrier while radeon lets you down. on the 1600x1200 scale it says that on Company of Heroes it gives you 94.5 frames per second on the 8800 while the 2900 XTX only gives you 73.7

ya, but even now it dcould be a diiference in drivers.

LoL i wouldnt doubt they screwed up, it wouldnt be the first time anyway. I stick to Nvidia, ive danced with Ati twice and both times were a disaster! Only one thing to say about it (OVERHEATOVERHEATOVERHEAT)
