| Lurker | Re: Bill Allows for Teachers to Carry Guns Nice words i agree with you every step of the way. For all those idiots who say then you wont be able to protect yourself against criminals with guns, well they wont have one. Though if guns are legal ,in a home invasion this would what happen, you may have one, but the chances of that criminal having one are pretty high these days looking back on how simple it is to get a gun.Chances are even if you do have a gun you don't know how to use it, and even if you do who will stop the criminal from killing your family before you?Add another amendment, no it wont go to waste this could really change America. ( if you don't understand this... you might be an idiot) |

| Registered User | Re: Bill Allows for Teachers to Carry Guns I competely agree with whoever said they completely disagree. The only thing more gun control will do is take the guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens. Murder and violent crime is up by 30% in the UK now that they have had a gun ban in effect for some years. Banning guns is just plain stupidity and shortsightedness. I think schools should have a "designated shooter". No one knows who, could be the janitor, could be a teacher, the lunch lady - that way the guys who come in with guns will have something to think about rather than being SURE they are going where no one else has a gun and can stop them. Why do the donut shops never get robbed? Because of the 8 or 9 cops hanging around who ALSO have guns. Robbers go where guns are not allowed for a reason. Do you think they are going to give up their guns because it is illegal to own one? LMAO not hardly. Drugs are illegal and they are awfully easy to come by these days. Criminals dont get their guns legally anyway. Last edited by Rafty; 09-18-2007 at 04:26 AM.. |

It's common sense that anyone doing anything illegal wouldn't be waving their actions around right under a cop's nose; I mean come on, no one is that stupid. Unless you're planning a murder and that was your alibi. :] Back on the main debate though; Teachers with guns, Safe or Risky? Advantages: - Honestly, I think teachers would have much more restraint about shooting their kids for a snide remark or disruptive behavior. They know the consequences of their actions seeing as they can be put away for just the slightest things [i.e. misinterpreted actions as sexual abuse]. - If a student knew the teach had a gun, [training would probably be sponsered with the job] then he/she would most likely be less inclined to act up in class, for naive fear of their own execution. - Schools over all would be a safer place because if every teacher was trained in the "art" of weilding a gun, kids would think twice [if not thrice] about bringing any type of weapon to school. I mean think about it, if one or two kids brought guns to school and tried to threaten the general public, then they could be way outnumbered, at least five to one. And I mean come on, even the dumbest kids know that five to one is a bad ratio. - Schools would no longer be a targeted area for potential homeland terrorists, terrorists are even smarter than students, remember? ;] Drawbacks: - Stressful teachers might cut one loose and threaten a student. [whoops!] - Power issues with forceful teachers. | |

| Lurker | Re: Bill Allows for Teachers to Carry Guns Before you look at this proposed policy as a gift from heaven, hear what I have to say (or write). The placing of the right to bear arms in the Constitution by the Founding Fathers is a result of their own experience and their insight into our country. When this country was founded, when the Constitution was written, the Founding Fathers and all 13 states had just come out of a war with Britain. In the years building up to the war, however, the colonists were slowly being PISSED off by the British. Probably one of the things they were most mad at was the Quartering Act, which said that any British soldier had the right to stay in your house, eat your food, and leave the next morning like nothing happened. The colonists were probably prohibited to bear arms, or else they would have resisted this invasion on their private property. The Founding Fathers did not want this to happen to the country they were establishing. “Enough of the history, get to your point,” you say? Imagine that in the Oval Office, in the President’s armchair, we have a Chinese fundamentalist who wants to destroy our country and/or merge us with China. So Cheng (our hypothetical President) figures that the best way to take this country for “the motherland” is to declare himself dictator and just declare us as part of China. Now, let’s assume that the gun control policy you suggested was implemented effectively, that is to say, all guns owned by citizens were successfully confiscated (which in and of itself is improbable). Let’s also assume that the whole military goes along with this takeover, and not one person in the military declines to follow orders (which is also improbable). So Cheng’s next step is to establish himself as dictator. He does so, and orders the military to protect him and do whatever it takes to keep him in his position. Well, because of the gun control, the citizens can’t react to this situation and rebel against our new dictator. So, end result of this scenario: our country is the United States of America, subsidiary of China. Now, let’s run through this scenario again, assuming that we had no gun control policy. Also, let’s say that for every 50 people in this country, there is 1 person who has a gun that he can use effectively. Therefore, using rough numbers, there are 6 million people in this country who can aim, shoot, and generally resist the dictatorship. There are approximately 2.7 million soldiers in the military, counting both active soldiers and the reserves of all the sections of the military. This gives us a little more than 2 citizens for every soldier. So, we pretty much have a successful rebellion. End result of scenario 2: our country is the United States of America, NOT a subsidiary of China, or any other country that wants us gone (*cough* Muslims in general *cough*). IN CONCLUSION, a gun control policy is not smart. At all. Guns are dangerous, but do guns kill people? Or do people kill people? I think a better policy to reduce the number of violent crimes would be harsher sentences for criminals. As in, 1 year for petty theft. That’ll fix something. |
