I'm not saying the US sucks, I'm saying that it definitely has its problems, and that a lot of these problems countries like Britain don't have.

(And by the way, if you haven't figured this out, it takes me a while to write posts -- I purposely make them controversial enough for people to respond angrily, or however they choose to respond. Of course, the actual news post is different...I don't bother making news controversial. Would just be wrong.)
Awwww, HESHAM... I know you didnt just say CHINA?? Billions of people in squallor, sweatshops where kids work for 10cents a day to make stuff that sells in Wal-Mart for 20 bucks, human rights violations, COMMUNISM, for crying out loud...their economy is on the rise due to a complete and utter IRONY - while communist in everything else, China has discovered the only real way for a country to prosper freely is to engage in Capitalism. A very entertaining oxymoron to someone like me, haha. Oh and see my next post to see CHina's place in the world's "prosperity ladder", LOL.

Denmark practices national socialism, right? Not good. Canada is probably you best argument here, but one of the reasons Canada has prospered is because it is part of North America... :-)

I like your posts, I don't get mad. It is refreshing to have some sane dialogue on here for a change, even though we seem to be diametrically opposed in our views lol.

The GDP of the U.S. is larger than the next two biggest economies combined, which are China and Japan. The U.S. economy outproduces the combined economies of over forty-seven poor nations, which account for 53 percent of the population of the world. These forty-seven nations include China and India. In the year 2000 the per capita income of the U.S. was 360 percent higher than the world's average per capita income, and, as 56% of the world lives in extreme poverty, the average american has a per capita income of 40-90 times that of of 56% of the world's population. These are all established documented facts. Can't get much clearer than that.

Re: Bill Allows for Teachers to Carry Guns

Now back to the guns. You anti-gun freaks need to consider this. Each year, five times more children drown in bathtubs than are killed by guns. Yet, when was the last time you saw the media working the country into a frenzy over bathtubs? In 1997 (sorry this was the latest year I could find this stat for), the FBI says 738 children under age 13 were murdered in the US. They also say that just 133 of those children were murdered with guns. Indeed, that's 133 too many but the media would have you think children were being murdered with guns in this country at epidemic proportions. That statistic points to a bigger problem. A problem with our society where some parents have such disregard for their own children that they would take their lives. Should we really be surprised when, occasionally, a child of one of those parents goes out and takes the life of someone else?

Stop and think for a moment about how important our right to bear arms was to our founding fathers. Of all the belongings of their day that were important to them - a home, clothing, a horse - guns are the only inanimate objects in the entire Constitution which are singled out for protection. Ever wonder why? Thomas Jefferson said "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny in government" just like ImNeverNotified said. It was George Washington who said "The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference. They deserve a place of honor with all that's good." If you think their thinking is a bit outmoded, contrast their statements with Adolf Hitler who said "The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the people to carry arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subjected peoples to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing."

Re: Bill Allows for Teachers to Carry Guns

That'd be fine and dandy, if everyone had a gun. Problem is, not everyone has a gun.

Really, if everyone had a gun (and a license to go with it, and perhaps a psychological test to be able to take the test to get the license?), we'd be much safer.

You're right. But any criminal who wants one can get a gun, and any law abiding citizen who wants one can get a gun, so everyone not having guns is not something that applies here, since it is a choice to have or not have one. In essence, everyone really does have one, since everyone who wants one can get it easily.

A reasonable statement. I believe everyone who wants a gun and can show they are responsible through education should be able to carry one. This makes us safer. That is what I have been saying all along. You've reversed your position, I think you were just trying to start up dialogue earlier, lol.

I'm assuming you've gotten ALL of those facts from the same document? [..which was made in 2000?] Things have changed in seven years.

Yeah, there has been REAL upheaval, lol. Accoding to the world bank in 2006, China and Japan combined, the #2 and #3 economies in the world, are slightly edging out the US now. Sorry I used these older staticstics to point out that China is clearly nowhere near the most prosperous country, as you guys both said. Now I have used newer statistics for you, to prove the same thing again. Things havent changed THAT much - that would be a 50% rise in GDP value for China over the last 6 years - lol. Maybe the most prosperous country is Chi-Jappa. Or the European Union.
