Sony and Nintendo get sued for patent infringement (again)

Console creators can't just catch a break, can they? According to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], a company named the Copper Innovations Group filed suit against Nintendo and Sony for a patent it holds on a "Hand Held Computer Input Apparatus and Method." The patent, filed in January 1996 references devices and their ability to communicate with hardware reference numbers. Sony's PS3 controllers utilize a similar technology, and the Wii is built around it.

This isn't the first time Sony has had to face a lawsuit for its controller technology. Famously, Immersion successfully sued Sony for the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] in the DualShock controller. Until the suit was settled, Sony had to remove rumble from their SIXAXIS controllers.

Neither Sony nor Copper Innovations Group has commented about the situation. Will this end up being another headache for Sony and Nintendo?

Although Im not a fan of Nintendo (anymore) or sony (at all), this is still just people bitching trying to get rich.

Xbox 360 > PS3 > Wii although I prefer the PS1, 2, and 3 controller over all the Xbox ones. I don't see why Sony would have to steal some companies ideas when they probably have a lot of people to think of their own ideas (Unless Sony is just a bunch of lazy rich guys).
