question about wireless gaming

Hello! My cousin and I are in a hotel right now with two laptops.. and free wi-fi connection provided by the hotel. We are both playing Rakion right now; however, we're not able to play in the same room together. Whenever I enter a room that he's in, he always has 999 ms. Even if I create a room and he's the only other player, it still has the same outcome. Is there any possible way that we can play together? Thanks in advance.
