Why wolfteam lags :: introduction
We have all experienced lags in wolfteam. We have all heard everyone fiercely screaming "LAGGER!" to each other.
They tell you to buy new computers and how much your net blows. In this document we will explain to you why it lags, and why Softnyx uses this. :: why does it lag
So as you may know there are no actual dedicated servers in wolfteam.
Now you may think, No servers? - Then how can we play!
I will tell you, wolfteam uses Peer-to-Peer or P2P for short. P2P mean that everyone connects to each other.
And the lag is because of Packet Delay, meaning you or someone else does not receive a packet when they are supposed to.
A packet is more or less a packet of information of what you have done, let's say you shoot with your gun, wolfteam will now send a
packet to everyone in the game with the action you just done. When they receive this packet, they will see you shoot. But if there will
be a delay, they might not see it after several hundreds of milliseconds (ms).
Here is an illustration of P2P vs. dedicated Servers.
Every red line represents an open connection where packets are sent.
In P2P one player could be seen lagging for one, but not another, because they may have packet loss only to one player.
This will also make it very hard to have a ping restriction, because there is no central server you connect to. :: a deeper look
Let's say you've got a fast speed from your ISP, 4000 kb/s downstream, and 800 kb/s upstream. This is indeed enough
for a dedicated server based game, but not for P2P. You'll have to share that 800 kb/s with all players, now, let's see
what will happend when you play on a full 16 player room.
Alright, now we'll take that fast 4000 kb/s connection of yours and divide it by all the players (15, as the last one is yourself)
4000 / 15 = 266. And how about that upload speed, 800 / 15 = 53.
Now, 266 kb/s down and 53 kb/s up isn't really impressive, now is it?
But how about you've got a extremely fast (optic fiber) internet, up to 50,000 kb/s up and 30,000 kb/s down?
50000 / 15 = 3000, 30000 / 15 = 2000.
Now that's some speed, surely we won't lag now? Wrong. All other players will still have that crappy 53 kb/s upload speed
to you, so you'll be left with 49,200 kb/s downstream, same goes with your upload speed - a lot of potential bandwidth will
be left unused.
It is here servers are good - servers usually run at a high bandwidth, lets take the 50mb & 30mb example. Everyone will now
only upload to one host with their full 800 kb/s to their server, and the server will distribute that packet to all of the players
with its bandwidth.
So basically, the more players, the more the bandwidth is split, and the laggier it gets. So in conclusion, Wolfteam will forever
lag until they support dedicated servers, or if you find 15 other players with a optic fiber line (not likely). :: why Softnyx uses it
In Asia, almost all games use P2P because there is no need to have a server, because everyone lives
very close to each other, so there is no one causing lags. This will cause a very large problem if
the game will become global, and in many times, P2P remains the only way of connection.
If Softnyx would enable people to setup dedicated servers lag would be gone, and you could set a ping limit. :: server disadvantages
While there are no reduced game play disadvantages, there is one big issue. Money. Softnyx will have to
rewrite the game's source code. This will cost them a lot of money. Money issues do however not end here, someone will have
to pay for their server to be hosted. And if no one is willing to pitch in, players would end up having nowhere to play.
Although, this is usually not the case - there is most likely someone who would start a server and it would eventually spawn more.
:: playing with lags
Contrary to popular belief, lag does not benefit all players who have this problem.
Letīs say you've just been killed because one player were lagging and sure, you'll become frustrated.
Now you may think that the lag helped this player to kill you, this may be the truth if
this particular player is a beginner, however, if this is a very experienced player he would have killed you no matter what.
Thus the lag is working against him - benefiting you. :: conclusion
Get. Dedicated. Servers.

Make a 2v2, 3v3 room called:
USA [EAST(optional)] ONLY
And make it No trespassing, and make sure you know your teammates as real friends, like me and Fatboy(< not really, We are not friends, just an example)...
If anyone has a ping that jumps over 150 from time to time, they lag, or aimbot/wallhack.
If anyone has a steady ping of over 100: KICK THAT FRENCH LAGGER
Make sure all pings are under 75 for a non-lag game.
Then you will own the other that will leave....And no one will be able to help them..
2v2, 3v3...
4v4 is too crazy...
The lag will be so minimal, or you can't feel it.
Must be pro to do this... Or else your team will leave..

I read the article, and Wolfteam should get dedicated servers to stop the lag. Some people don't live close to each other, so there is gonna be a lot of lag between those people.

Rakion force has been out for two years...
They need money and softnyx won't pay for them
Talk to softnyx about that.
They will probably be like:
Yes, please, GO ahead and buy us dedicated servers!
Don't forget the other servers like ASIA, ISREAL!
That what they will say...
im saying they should just allow user to purchase servers...like how in halo,bf2,css...........w/ the option of the user to start a server on there box.
